MCT Oil: Here’s Why We Believe in This Healthy Fat

October 18, 2019

When navigating the world of wellness, it’s easy to get caught up in drastic claims that promise quick results. There seems to be a new fad that pops up every second claiming to have the answer to skinny waistlines and long-term change. In recent years, diet culture has seen backlash from scientists and dietitians, many of whom disapprove of diets such as the Atkins Diet, the Zone Diet, and the South Beach Diet that restrict food groups and essential nutrients.

While many diets have their fair share of failures, some see long-lasting results in not only weight loss, but overall health. When monitored by a physician, some diets have the ability to improve serious health conditions.

One diet many of our customers follow is the Keto Diet. The Keto Diet is a high-fat, adequate protein, low-carbohydrate diet that puts the body in a state of ketosis to burn fat rather than carbohydrates for energy. Because the typical American diet focuses on 50-60% carbs, 30% fat, and 12-20% protein, the body naturally burns carbohydrates to create energy. When the body is in ketosis, it consumes mostly fat, thus using it for energy to speed up weight loss.

Not only does the Keto Diet speed up weight loss, but it also benefits certain conditions such as epilepsy, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, and even some forms of cancer. Because high-fat diets are beneficial to the brain, studies have shown that those affected by epilepsy see a decrease in seizure frequency and severity, especially in those who don’t respond to drug therapy.

The Keto Diet can also improve heart health. “Good fat” or HDL, which is found in avocados, is proven to lower “bad fat” also known as LDL, significantly. When following a Keto Diet, it’s important to steer towards those healthy fats to reduce the risk of artery-damaging inflammation.

When launching our keto-friendly Fuel Bars, we kept this in mind. In doing so, we decided to include MCT oil, an extremely healthy fat with a number of benefits. First and foremost, MCT oil promotes weight loss by increasing the release of peptide YY and leptin, two hormones that promote fullness. MCT oil is also “good fat” with 10% less calories than other sources such as olive oil or avocado.

MCT oil is an instant source of energy used by the brain. Due to their shorter length, medium-chain-triglycerides travel straight from the gut into the liver where they’re quickly broken down and turned into energy. They then pass through the blood-brain barrier and convert into a source of energy for the brain cells.

Before gaining its popularity for weight loss, the Keto Diet was first introduced as a way to manage epilepsy. Many scientists found that ketones can decrease the frequency of seizures. Certain studies have even shown that MCT capric acid can improve seizure control better than a widespread anti-epileptic drug.

The benefits of MCT oil are endless. Not only did we consider this when creating our Fuel Bars, but we also decided to make them vegan, gluten-free, and all natural for one of the healthiest protein bars on the market. Healthy ingredients should be beneficial for the body, but they should also taste delicious. Our Fuel Bars come in a variety of great flavors, including Peanut Butter Cacao, Cinnamon Crunch, and Vanilla. Without the chalky taste of most protein bars, the Fuel Bars are ideal to take with you for a midday or post-workout snack to keep you full all day long.

We are committed to creating industry-leading snacks to satisfy not only your sweet tooth, but fulfill your body’s needs. Happy snacking!
